California Roots Music & Arts Festival is dedicated to incorporating sustainability onsite & into our core daily business operations.   We pledge to reduce our impact on the environment by aligning ourselves with other like-minded organizations, making earth-wise choices regarding the products we purchase, promoting environmental awareness to our fans, staff & artists, & continuing to set the bar higher each year in our commitment to sustainability.

Require 100% compostable greenware from all vendors, concessions, catering & hospitality
Require all vendors who provide shopping bags to provide paper bags made from 100% post-consumer waste recycled content, or fabric, reusable bags
Strengthen our robust waste diversion program to a 90% diversion rate
Donate leftover perishable food & beverages from catering, hospitality & vendors to local food banks

Collaborate with fellow California Green Certified Businesses
Inspire other events striving to 'go green' by working with state & local leaders to create green event guidelines
Draw awareness to & raise funds for nonprofits dedicated to protecting & conserving our local environment

HISTORY OF IMPACT

  • Certified as first Green Festival in the State of California in 2020
  • Certified Green Business in Monterey County
  • Diverted 600,000+ single use plastic cups & bottles through our Steel Pint & REVERB's Rock n' Refill Programs
  • Sold over 50,000 multi-use steel pint cups & Nalgene bottles
  • Enhanced local vineyards with 50,000 lbs of composted food waste
  • Collected 100 tons of recyclables via our partnership with Blue Strike Environmental
  • Planted over 7,500 Redwood tree seedlings on behalf of VIP ticket holders with the Redwood Forest Foundation
  • Offset over 17 million pounds of carbon through our partnership with TripZero
  • Raised over $20,000 for the Surfrider Foundation, Save Our Shores & Last Plastic Straw via REVERB's Rock n' Refill Program
  • Parked 5,000 skateboards and bikes at our free, onsite Bike & Skate Valet
  • Conducted a festival-wide clean up with Save Our Shores, focusing on collecting cigarette butts & education about the path they can take directly to the ocean via storm drains
  • Donated 1,300 pounds of leftover food from catering, hospitality & vendors to the Monterey County Food Bank
